Remove camera information from a photo
JPEG EXIF can contain camera or phone model, lens and exposure settings, timestamps, software information and sometimes GPS coordinates. MetWipe removes supported JPEG metadata segments while creating a separate cleaned copy.
OPEN JPEG EXIF REMOVERWhat camera information can be stored?
Depending on the device and file, EXIF may include manufacturer, model, lens, ISO, exposure time, aperture, capture date and GPS fields. Files differ, so inspect the individual image first.
Remove supported metadata
- Inspect the JPEG with the EXIF viewer.
- Note any device, time or GPS fields you do not want to share.
- Run the supported JPEG cleaner.
- Download the new copy rather than overwriting your original.
- Re-open the cleaned copy in the viewer to verify the result.
No extra JPEG recompression pass
The current JPEG cleaner targets supported metadata application and comment segments while copying the encoded image data itself. See the supported-formats page for exact behavior and limitations.
What this does not remove
A metadata cleaner does not alter visible details in the photograph. Logos, faces, addresses, documents and location clues visible in pixels require separate editing or redaction.
Camera metadata is broader than the camera model
“Camera info” can refer to several EXIF categories. Depending on the JPEG, metadata may identify the device maker or model, lens, editing software, capture time, exposure settings and GPS information. These fields are separate from the visible photograph and can survive even when the image itself looks ordinary.
- Device identity: maker, model or lens information can reveal how the photo was captured.
- Capture context: timestamps and exposure fields can reveal when and how an image was created.
- Software history: software tags can identify an editing or export application.
- Location: GPS fields, when present, can expose coordinates independently of visible scene clues.
When to use this page instead of the general EXIF remover
Use this workflow when your main concern is device and capture information. If you simply want a broad supported JPEG metadata cleanup, the general EXIF remover is the better starting point. Both workflows create a separate cleaned copy so the original stays available.
